    Description

This is an antique Wm. J. Rahily Co. Petersburg, VA whiskey bottle, likely dating to the late 1800s.  The beautiful old liquor bottle is embossed on the shoulder with the name of the company and city; the reverse is embossed with the initials logo.  Wm. J. Rahily was a liquor dealer located at 216 Sycamore St in Petersburg, VA around the turn of the century.  The bottom of the bottle has light markings which could be AGW, or American Glass Works, which operated out of Richmond, Va.  From what I've read that company was in business for a short period at the turn of the century as well. This bottle has characteristics of an 1800s bottle, mold formed in 3 pieces; seam stops below lip which was separately applied.  The glass at the bottom is unevenly poured and is a slight purple, amethyst in hue.  (The color tint varies with lighting).  There are several air bubble in the glass.  My father, an avid bottle hunter, found the bottle in the ruins of an old homestead in Virginia more than 40 years ago.  Its in nice shape, free from breaks or cracks.  Clarity and embossing is nice for 120 plus year old bottle.  It measures about 11.5" tall and 3.25" wide.
Please note this is an empty bottle sold for collectible purposes.
