Description
Up for sale is a nice rarely-seen whiskey bottle from Orange NJ grocer Charles M. Decker & Brothers. It's embossed on the front with a shield and eagle banner logo, with "C. M. D. & BROS / TRADE MARK" stylized inside. Below that in three lines it's boldly embossed "CHARLES M. DECKER & BROTHERS".Bottles of this age aren't too frequently seen from the Oranges, especially in color. The Decker company operated from the 1870s onwards and used these whiskies, blown blob top and crown top bottles, stoneware jugs, and more. None are common. The Decker family ran a chain of grocery stores across Essex County with branches in the Oranges, Montclair, Bloomfield, and even more locations I believe. I've only seen a handful of these whiskey bottles over the years and rarely are they properly identified as being from Essex County NJ!
The bottle is amber in color with a tooled cork top lip. It was blown in a two part mold and has a slightly concave blank circular base. It's in great condition - no chips or cracks. It does have a tiny bit of ground stain and wear from usage. There is a very small bruise on the top of the lip with no glass missing. Satisfaction guaranteed, if you're not in love after handling it in person I’m happy to accept returns.
Shipped via USPS Priority Mail at buyer's expense, or pickup in Queens NY. I will be listing a variety of other bottles for sale - if you end up seeing something else you like, let me know and I can combine shipping! Feel free to ask me what else I have !
