    Description

    Offered Here is an Original, Antique, American, Mold-Blown, 1860-70s-Era, Cylindrical Spirits-Whiskey-Bottle with Base-Embossed Lettering.
    The Bottle is Blown of a Deep Reddish-Amber Colored-Glass and Features a Crudely "Applied" Double-Sloping-Collar Top or "Lip-Finish" with Nice Looking Uneven Formation and Excess Glass Spilling-Over a Bit on to the Neck of the Bottle. There is Nice Over-All Crudeness to the Side-Panels of the Bottle which is also Home to some Nice Crude Entrapped Air-Bubbles of Various Sizes.
    The Base of the Bottle is Quite Concave, and is Crudely, Embossed ( on a Good Angle) w/ "WM. FRANK + SONS / PITTS. PA." The Base is "Smooth" and without a "Pontil-Scar" but is Quite Crude and Whittle-Marked No Less and the Letters are the Early Style with Thick Crooked Formation and a Gem Like Appearance.
    The Pittsburgh Glass Companies that were Manufacturing Blown Bottles in the 19th Century were Well-Known to Emboss their Cylinder Beer, Ale, or Whiskey Bottles with their Insignia of Company Name Initials on the Bottles Bases. Many of these Bottles which appeared in Shades of Amber, Citroen Yellow, Green, Olive-Amber ( Black-Glass) or Even Sapphire Blue, Very Rarely, were Embossed with the Initials Standing for Wm. MCculley + Company, Ihmsen Glass Company, (Frederic) Lorenz + Wightman, Cunningham + Ihmsen Glass Works, (Stephen) S. Mckee + Company, or A.D.H.C. Chambers Glass Works, and a Few Others. I have Never Seen a Base-Embossed Pittsburgh Glass Company Whiskey-Bottle from the William Frank + Sons Glass Works, other than this Example and I am assuming There are Not Many of These Bottles around.
