According to a labeled example of this bottle, it contained an aromatic preparation of bitters which we take that to mean it was a bitters used for both health reasons AND as a flavoring for beverages.
The label also mentioned that the bitters were put up by, "H. UNDERBERG-ALBRECHT" and though bottle collectors refer to these bottles as Underberg Bitters bottles, Underberg was just the manufacturer, not the name of the bitters.   These bottles are also referred to as BOONEKAMP'S BITTERS bottles and also some info. we researched called it a Maig Bitters bottle.
Underberg's Bitters were one of the longest running line of bitters known as it was still being manufactured and put up in new screw top bottles and as the label stated, established in 1846.   Note too that this is an OFF-SIZE, a 10" tall bottle, not the usual 12" commoner variety.  Anyway the
DESIRABLE FEATURES
of this bottle are, of course, the
DEEP RED / AMBER color
, the
DRIPPY APPLIED LIP
, and the prime
PRISTINE SPARKLING CLEAN
condition,  complete with bubbles and luster from being blown and spun in a turn mold.   I truly believe that this is as fine as an example a collector could come up with, and if there is another one that someone would like to compare it to, it may possibly be this nice
