    Description

We bought our house 34 years ago from a deceased gentleman's estate who worked for the
    Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company
.  He left a set of paintbrushes, very high quality vintage brushes made by this company.  There are
    4 in this lot included
, all are pure bristle "
    Gold Stripe
" brushes, and this is a unique grouping.
There are two (2) 3 1/2 inch brushes.  One appears to be older and has no markings, but it still has a discernible gold stripe under the paint on the handle (I did not attempt to clean).  I has more of a multi-colored brown bristle  The other is marked, as you can see.  It is only pictured in the 5th picture (I decided to add it in to the lot).
The rare oval varnish brush is marked 9/0 size (the bristles are 4 inches and it is about 2 inches wide).  It was part of the "Mikado" line from the PPGCo.
There is a 1 1/2 inch Gold Stripe that has a screw-on handle and a "drip guard" attached, it is "vulcanized in rubber".
Now, please read carefully!   These were stored, for umpteen years (I am guessing they are maybe from the 40's?) in a hinged suitcase that I believe is made out of "
    Vulcanoid
", which is like a hard plastic-fiber material I've seen used on camera cases.  This case has a leather handle (like guitar cases I've seen from the 30's), and is partitioned inside.  I has metal corners and 2 locks made by
    Terryville Eagle
    company.  Now,
    this case is NOT included,
but I will include it, as well as all of the additional items in it (there are 3 old rollers, and a few additional paintbrushes, there is also an extra handle like the one on the 1 1/2 above).  If you want all of this, you will have to pay extra for shipping, probably an extra or so.
YOU WILL HAVE TO EMAIL ME TO ARRANGE THIS.
So the listing is for the 4 brushes described only.  These are from a bygone era of quality.  I am not a painter.  If I were one, I'd actually use these brushes, because the quality of the Chinese bristles was outstanding.  I did my research on the PPGCo, these are the kinds of companies we need more of these days.  Old School.
Lastly, I'd say these brushes were well-maintained and built to last. Perfect for a perfectionist painter.  "They don't make 'em like this anymore".
