    Description

Western whiskey back bar bottle OLD SIGNET 1910 barrel to bottle saloon decanter. 11 inches tall. Research leads to the Glenmorangie distillery in Scotland where, since 1845, the scotch production was suspended for one week each year to distill this highland single malt whiskey. This high-end premium liquor is quite expensive today, and I suspect it was expensive then too.
The Bottled in Bond act of 1897 gave rise to the popularity of the back bar bottle whereby the liquor could be dispensed from a barrel on site, thereby avoiding the new bottling taxes. Many of the popular brands of the day were transferred to this new method of distribution in back bar bottles.
Legend among the western diggers is that pieces of this brand have been found in amber embossed bottles.
This lead glass bottle is mint with edge incised outline lettering once filled with gold leaf inside the cut, but now only the inside edges have gold. Photos of bottle with liquor are for visual effect only, bottle ships empty.
