Zatoichi movies! I've been told that this poster is from the film ZATOICHI'S VENGEANCE (1966), the 13th film in the series - thanks Dave!  :D
Either way, I think this is
one of his BEST
movie posters! Zatoichi is in an action-pose with his cane sword on it's upstroke. The blood-red Kanji lettering is literally
CASCADING
down from Zatoichi's blade, flowing towards his doomed, slower rival - his sword still unsheathed! This movie poster says it all...
